Are hybrids worth the additional cost?

04/19/2012
Seems that there are better alternatives to the traditional hybrid these days. I myself would default back to a diesel powered VW for good highway fuel economy however they won't be as good as a hybrid in the city. Diesel engines last longer and many owner see over 300,000 miles on their TDI VWs so it justifies the slightly higher cost over a gasoline powered VW. Another good alternative would be the Chevy volt where it is fully an electric car that has a generator to produce more electricity for the electric motors if you drive farther than your normal daily commute.

You really need to stand back and think about what you really want from a car when making this decision. If you want performance, then no hybrid will meet your performance oriented needs. A Mustang or Camaro will get relatively good gas mileage for the trade off of having fun when driving vs driving a Prius for example.
