2013 Ford Taurus SHO Total Car Score Analysis

The 2013 Ford Taurus SHO earns an average Total Car Score for the High Performance segment.

Upgraded for the new model year — changes that addressed many of last year's rough edges — the Taurus SHO is a fine sport sedan that offers plenty of power and agility for those who demand a bit more from their four-door sedan. When things slow down to a normal pace, the SHO is well-optioned, quiet and comfortable.

Despite the hype, Ford's Taurus SHO still falls short of the world's best sport sedans. Its front-wheel drive chassis (configured with an all-wheel drive system for its role in the SHO) simply doesn't deliver the balance, handling or driving dynamics of a rear-wheel drive chassis. The rear seats are a bit tight for such a large sedan.

The Ford Taurus SHO originally debuted three years ago, but the automaker has made a few changes for the 2013 model year. These include a minor exterior refresh including a new rear spoiler, upgraded brakes with improved pedal feel and an improved MyFord Touch infotainment interface. There is also a new SHO Performance package for even greater performance.

2013 Ford Taurus SHO Model Line-Up

The 2013 Ford Taurus SHO is a four-door sedan with seating for up to five passengers. There is just one trim level.

Differentiating the Taurus SHO from its siblings is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. Burning premium unleaded gasoline, the engine is rated at 365 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent through a standard six-speed automatic transmission before being distributed to all four wheels through the SHO's standard all-wheel-drive system.

Standard Equipment includes leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry/ignition, power-adjustible pedals, remote start, Ford's SYNC voice-activated communications, MyFord Touch, HD Radio, capless fuel filler, HID headlamps and backup sensors.

An optional Equipment group (402A) contains an upgraded Sony audio system, active parking assist, blind-spot warning and heated/cooled front seats. The optional SHO Performance package upgrades the brake pads, adds sport-calibrated electric steering, firmer shocks, thicker anti-roll bars, a lower final drive ratio (for better acceleration), larger brakes, "Track Mode" stability control, mobility kit (in lieu of spare tire), Alcantara steering wheel and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO are 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined.
