Vehicle Review: 2012 Aston Martin Virage
2012 Aston Martin Virage Total Car Score Analysis
The 2012 Aston Martin Virage doesn't have enough ratings to earn a valid Total Car Score.
Reviewers find that the Virage's silky-smooth V12 and six-speed automatic deliver near-seamless power. The handling is agile and the steering is direct and responsive — the standard carbon-ceramic brakes deliver short and confident stopping. The hand-built interior features top-notch quality, and the simple Garmin navigation system is easier to use than previous archaic Aston Martin offerings.
On the downside, the Virage's performance is still below par when compared to its rivals in this semi-exotic segment. And, while it technically offers a four-passenger cabin, there are no humans among our circle of friends who would willingly sit in the claustrophobic rear seats. (In Aston's defense, it does call the cabin a "2+2" configuration.)
The Aston Martin Virage is all-new for 2012.
2012 Aston Martin Virage Model Line-Up
The 2012 Aston Martin Virage is offered in two-door coupe or Volante (convertible) body style. Each is only offered in one trim level. While the coupe features a fixed aluminum roof, the Volante models are equipped with a power-operated automatic soft top with a heated rear window.
Fixed- and open-top Virage models share a naturally-aspirated 5.9-liter V12 rated at 490 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and joined to a standard rear mid-mounted Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox. The Aston Martin coupe and convertible will sprint to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 183 mph. All Virage models are rear-wheel drive.
Both body styles come as one well-equipped model. Standard amenities includes Bridge of Weir leather upholstery, a 700-watt 5.1 surround audio system, a Garmin navigation system, satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Performance features include carbon ceramic disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, an adjustable adaptive suspension, and 20-inch performance tires.
Notable options consist of a Bang & Olufsen sound system, an alarm upgrade, and numerous personalization features, including any paint color the customer wants, five wheel choices, various roof colors for the Volante, personalized sill plates, several types of fascia trim, a bright finish grille and special wood trim.
In addition to the extensive list of equipment, Aston Martin will custom-tailor its vehicles — whether that means unique contrasting stitching in the leather or paint-matched wheels — as part of the company's bespoke program.
The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2012 Aston Martin Virage at 13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined.
