The 2013 Audi A6 earns an above average Total Car Score for the Luxury Sedans & Wagons segment.
After being redesigned last year, the 2013 A6 continues to impress reviewers. For 2013 Audi has addressed one of the few criticisms from last year, the turbocharged four-cylinder model. The base turbo four-cylinder still comes with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). But for 2013 Audi is offering a turbocharged four-cylinder model with all-wheel drive and the same eight-speed transmission found on the supercharged V6 model. Reviewers agree that the FWD with the CVT should be ignored, preferring one of the latter options. The handling and steering are very good, although reviewers do say the steering feel can be a bit light at low speeds. Opting for the sport suspension provides an even more athletic driving experience, but at the cost of some of the ride comfort.
The exterior styling might be a bit bland and conservative for reviewers, but it shines on the inside. Reviewers praise the interior styling and quality materials. The ride quality is superb and seats are comfortable. There is some disagreement regarding interior space, with some reviewers saying rear legroom can be lacking, while others say it offers more than its competitors.
Reviewers are impressed by the long list of technology features, including Google Earth maps, in-car wireless internet and a top-view camera system. On the safety side, the Audi A6 offers just about every safety technology that exists. This list includes head-up display, a night vision system with pedestrian detection, front and rear parking sensor, a rear view camera, blind spot monitoring and Audi’s Pre-Sense Plus system to automatically apply the brakes and adjust the front seat positions for optimal safety if it senses a crash to be imminent.
The Audi A6 was all-new last year. Additions for 2013 include a turbocharged four-cylinder model with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic and a top view camera.
The 2013 Audi A6 is a midsize five-passenger sedan available in five models: 2.0T Premium, 2.0T Premium Plus, 3.0T Premium, 3.0T Premium Plus and 3.0T Prestige. The high performance S6 is reviewed separately.
Both 2.0T models come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Both come standard with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission being optional. The 3.0T models come with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. All three 3.0T models come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic as standard equipment.
Premium trims with either engine come standard with 17-inch wheels, power-adjustable heated side mirrors with memory, halogen daytime running lights, three-zone automatic climate control, heated leather front seats and keyless ignition. Premium Plus standard features include 18-inch wheels, auto-leveling xenon headlights, a rear view camera and Audi’s multi-media interface (MMI) voice activated navigation system with handwriting recognition technology. The top of the line Prestige model adds adaptive xenon headlights, S line exterior appearance, four-zone climate control, power adjustable steering column with memory, LED ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats and a Bose 14-speaker premium sound system.
There are numerous option packages and stand-alone options available. A cold weather package includes heated front and rear seats as well as a heated steering wheel. A sport package is available on all models and includes a sport suspension, shift paddles and 19-inch wheels with performance summer tires. Other options include adaptive cruise control with stop & go, active lane assist, Audi’s pre sense plus safety system, night vision assist with pedestrian detection and a top view camera.
The EPA estimates fuel economy to be 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined in front-wheel drive models. The all-wheel drive four-cylinder gets 20/30/24. The supercharged V6 is estimated at 18/27/22.
