Vehicle Review: 2013 Audi RS 5
2013 Audi RS 5 Total Car Score Analysis
The 2013 Audi RS 5 doesn't have enough ratings to earn a Valid Total Car Score.
Audi's two-door sports car is a technological tour de force, loaded with just about every innovative automotive technology known to the automotive kingdom. The four-passenger coupe delivers impressive all-season performance on a silver platter.
Silver platters aren't light. With a curb weight of nearly two tons, the mass is felt as a penalty in both handling prowess and fuel economy. Some will argue that the RS 5 has been over engineered to the point of being sterile.
The Audi RS 5 is based on the company's A5 platform, first launched five years ago. The range-topping RS 5 trim level is all-new for 2013.
2013 Audi RS 5 Model Line-Up
The 2013 Audi RS 5 is a midsize four-passenger coupe offered in one trim level.
The RS 5 is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter V8 rated at 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels through Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. The powertrain is configured to distribute torque with a rearward bias on dry level ground, but to automatically reconfigure power distribution based on available traction under all driving conditions.
As a flagship, all RS 5 models are very well appointed in standard configuration. Interiors feature leather and Alcantara upholstery and sporty aluminum and carbon-fiber trim. Full power accessories are standard, as is multi-zone automatic climate control, automatic bi-xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, Audi's multi-media interface (MMI) with Bluetooth connectivity and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Major options include an electronically-controlled torque-sensing sport differential and lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes.
The EPA has not yet rated the fuel economy of the all-wheel drive 2013 Audi RS 5.
