Vehicle Review: 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe
2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Total Car Score Analysis
The 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe doesn't have enough ratings to earn a Valid Total Car Score.
Some would argue that the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a bit late to the game, as other automakers have been peddling their four-door “coupes” for several years, but that hasn’t discouraged this German automaker from introducing its own stunning variant.
More than 4 inches longer than the 6 Series coupe on which it is based (and longer than a 5 Series sedan), the new 6 Series Gran Coupe promises much better accommodations for those in the second row. The 6 Series Gran Coupe will be launched in the United States initially as a 640i – fitted with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 315 horsepower. Shortly thereafter, BMW will introduce a 650i model with a more powerful turbocharged V8 and xDrive models with permanent all-wheel drive.
2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Model Line-Up
The 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is an all-new four-door five-passenger variant of the standard 6 Series coupe. At launch it will be available in a single model, the 640i, but that will soon be followed by 650i and 650i xDrive versions.
The 640i is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that produces 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Both models of the 650i are fitted with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 making 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic transmission routes power to the rear wheels in 640i and 650i models, while the eight-speed in the xDrive version sends power to all four wheels.
Standard equipment aboard the Grand Coupe includes Dynamic (electronic) Damper Control, Driving Dynamics Control (which varies throttle response, power steering boost, the transmission and the dampers through a range of settings from Comfort and Sport to Eco Pro modes), 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, leather upholstery, a navigation system and BMW’s iDrive operating system.
Among the major options available are ventilated seats; four-zone climate control; upgraded leather; an M Sport package with aerodynamic body pieces, a sports exhaust system, Alcantara leather upholstery and 19-inch alloy wheels; the ConnectedDrive system with its adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot detection, rear and top-view cameras and a head-up display; night vision; upgraded audio systems; and active cruise control.
The EPA has not yet rated the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe’s fuel economy.
