2013 Chevrolet Spark Total Car Score Analysis
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark doesn't have enough ratings to earn a Valid Total Car Score.
After watching several of its competitors bring new entries into the sub-compact segment, Chevrolet went overseas to fetch this Korean-designed four-seater to add to its lineup. It slots below the Sonic, and size-wise it’s smaller than Honda’s Fit but bigger than the Fiat 500.
While it looks like a three-door hatchback, there are actually rear doors on both sides of the car, their handles creatively hidden in the roof pillars.
Chevy is aiming the Spark at urban dwellers and first-time car buyers -- in other words, drivers who don’t necessarily want even a midsize car or who won’t put many demands on a car’s powertrain. That allows the Spark to run around with a tiny 1.2-liter engine that delivers barely adequate power but excellent fuel economy (we hope, anyway; the jury is still out).
For the even more gas-miserly shopper, an all-electric version of the Spark is due in late 2012.
2013 Chevrolet Spark Model Line-Up
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark is a four-door four-passenger subcompact car available in LS and LT trim levels.
The single powerplant currently offered in the Spark is a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gas engine that produces 84 horsepower and 83 pound-feet of torque. (An electric version of the Spark is slated for launch in late 2012.) Mated to the engine is either a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
The base LS model is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows, a tilt/telescope steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a four-speaker audio system and OnStar.
The two levels of LT trim -- LT1 and LT2 -- feature accessories that include painted and machined alloy wheels, the MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen and Bluetooth connectivity, an upgraded sound system with satellite radio, cruise control, power mirrors and heated front seats with leatherette upholstery.
Safety features on board the Spark include 10 airbags, ABS and StabiliTrak.
The EPA has not yet released fuel economy data for the 2013 Chevrolet Spark.
