Vehicle Review: 2011 Hyundai Tucson
2011 Hyundai Tucson Total Car Score Analysis
In a class known for basic transportation the 2011 Hyundai Tucson ranks near the top. Its Total Car Score reflects a compact crossover doing a few things just a little bit better than the rest.
Critics like the interior appointments, the level of equipment for the price, the useful power and the frugal fuel economy.
But no car is perfect, and auto writers note that cargo space and rear seat room are lacking while the ride is stiffer than many competitors. If these aren't of primary concern buyers will likely appreciate the Tucson's sleek styling and sporty driving dynamics.
The 2011 Tucson is in just its second year of a new product design cycle, so changes for this year are limited to a new base trim and some feature upgrades.
2011 Hyundai Tucson Model Line-Up
In the second model year since its redesign the 2011 Hyundai Tucson adds a base model and a new entry-level engine.
The new model is called GL and it is powered by a 165-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is paired with a 5-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
The other models, GLS and Limited, feature a 176-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to the 6-speed automatic.
The GL is offered only with front-wheel drive, while the others come with front- or all-wheel drive.
EPA fuel economy ratings for the GL are 20 mpg city/27 highway and 23 combined with the manual transmission and 23/31/26 with the automatic. The other models are rated at 22/31/25 with FWD and 21/28/23 with AWD.
