Vehicle Review: 2012 Infiniti QX
2012 Infiniti QX Total Car Score Analysis
The 2012 Infiniti QX56 receives a solid Total Car Scores in the Ultra Luxury SUV and Crossover segment.
Reviewers said the QX56 is easy to drive, handles well for a large vehicle, benefits from a muscular V8 engine and can capably manage off-road jaunts if the need arises. Other pluses include an elegant interior, an abundance of high-tech features and an adult-size third row.
Minuses for the QX include a somewhat harsh ride, a steering feel that’s too light and a tall front-end that impedes visibility of the roadway. Other detractors are its questionable styling and annoying safety system alarms.
The Infiniti QX was completely redesigned two years ago. It is currently in its third generation. For 2012, the Technology Package adds a lane departure mitigation system and the Deluxe Touring Package receives a 15-speaker Bose Cabin Surround audio system.
2012 Infiniti QX Model Line-Up
The 2012 Infiniti QX56 is a seven- or eight-passenger luxury SUV, offered in one very well-equipped trim.
Standard features include running boards, roof rails, a power liftgate, 20-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights and a heavy-duty trailer hitch. Within, the QX56 brings tri-zone climate control, leather upholstery, push-button start, heated power-adjustable front seats and a power-folding third-row seat. On the tech front, standard amenities include a top-view camera, Bluetooth, voice-command navigation and a premium stereo with USB connectivity. Notable options (available in various packages) include a rear-seat DVD system, a Lane Departure Mitigation system and a Hydraulic Body Motion Control system.
Standard safety amenities include ABS, stability control and six airbags. More advanced optional safety systems include Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Distance Control Assist and Intelligent Brake Assist.
The rear- or four-wheel drive Infiniti QX56 is powered by a 5.6-liter V8 producing 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode. Max towing capacity is 8500 pounds.
EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2012 Infiniti QX56 is 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined for both rear- and four-wheel drive models.
