2013 Cadillac ATS First Drive Event

2013 Cadillac ATS Driving Curve

I'm driving the all-new 2013 Cadillac ATS this week, and in a nod to how capable this car will be, Cadillac is holding the event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

While my ATS seat time happens this week, I can't actually describe the car's driving traits until the press embargo lifts next Monday (July 23rd), at which time we'll have a full 2013 Cadillac ATS road test AND an Entry Luxury Sport Sedan Comparison Test that features the ATS along with the BMW 335i and the Infiniti G37.

But enough information has been released to inspire optimism in Cadillac's latest 3 Series fighter. Information about the car's lightweight design (it weighs less than a 3 Series, A4 or C-Class) and informaiton about its 5.4-second zero-to-60 time when equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine. The ATS also sports 50/50 weight distribution and the use of leightweight materials in the hood and door panels. Starting price is $33,990 with the 2.5-liter engine and $35,795 with the 2.5-liter turbo. An ATS with the 3.6-liter V6 starts at $42,090.

While not exactly the equivalent of a full road test, there's enough information in these figures suggest the car will be fully capable of holding its own again the German and Japanese competition. Combine those hard numbers with the distinctive exterior design we've arleady seen, and the 2013 Cadillac ATS could prove the cherry on top of Cadillac's revival over the past five years. Will it?

I'm looking forward to finding out.
