2011 Maybach Landaulet Total Car Score Analysis

There are insufficient expert ratings to produce a Total Car Score for the 2011 Maybach 62S Landaulet. Here’s why: it's one of the few cars in the world with a seven-figure price.

That money gets a soft rear roof panel that slides back above the trunk. Unfortunately, this car is still a quasi-Mercedes Benz S-Class stretched to 20 feet long. However, a Maybach Relationship Manager will help a buyer equip the Landaulet in whatever fashion suits.

The Maybach Landaulet provides wood trim and Grand Nappa leather everywhere, plus rear bucket seats (three-abreast seating is optional) complete with footrests. These upscale treatments contrast disappointingly with the door-mounted seat controls from the decade-old S-Class. Still, one can recline fully and zone out to the open sky above because the Landaulet is a true limousine, its front and rear seats separated by a solid partition.

The chauffeur may like to know about the car's turbocharged V12 engine. He can whisk his charges away from the paparazzi with a zero-to-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds.

Options are few, including a 19-inch “cinema screen” gracing the partition that can be surrounded by granite trim. The rest is up to the buyer.

2011 Maybach Landaulet Model Line-Up

The 2011 Maybach 62S Landaulet comes as a semi-convertible with whatever may be specified beyond the extensive standard equipment.

In addition to 10 hidden storage compartments, the interior houses a 21-speaker Bose sound system, rear console beverage cooler (complete with champagne flutes), front and rear Bluetooth streams and La-Z-Boy-like reclining rear seats with foot rests.

There are also rear audio/video controls via remote, four-zone climate control, and Mercedes-Benz's Comand navigation/vehicle information system. With the roof retracted, a wind deflector deploys at 40 mph to mitigate buffeting.

An active, self-leveling suspension runs on 20-inch wheels. The rear wheels are driven through a five-speed automatic transmission by a 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 producing 620 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.

The 6,400-pound Landaulet achieves 10 mpg city and 16 mpg highway.
