2011 Ram Ram Series Heavy Duty Total Car Score Analysis

The 2011 Ram Heavy Duty doesn't have enough ratings to earn a valid Total Car Score.  
 
Reviewers tend to reward the more car-like half-tons with higher scores than these workhorses, so every HD truck in this segment scored lower than their light-duty cousins.  
 
The Ram HD pickups were redesigned in the previous year, and this year they saw the introduction of chassis-cab 3500/4500/5500 models. In the face of stiff competition from their domestic rivals, Ram engineers recalibrated the Cummins turbodiesel’s powertrain control module so the engine would produce 800 foot-pounds of torque, giving the Ram 3500 best-in-class tow capabilities.  
 
The Ram heavy duty line also has several special models aimed at specific buyer niches, such as the Power Wagon for hardcore off-roaders, the Outdoorsman for hunters and fishing enthusiasts, and the posh Laramie Longhorn.

2011 Ram Ram Series Heavy Duty Model Line-Up

The Ram Heavy Duty pickups range from the 2500 (three-quarter ton) and 3500 (one-ton) trucks to commercially oriented 4500 and 5500 models.  
 
The 2500/3500-series pickups are offered with regular, Crew and Mega Cab bodies; 3500/4500/5500 chassis-cab trucks can be ordered with regular or Crew Cab bodies. All Ram fullsize truck variants are available in either 4x2 or 4x4 configurations; 3500-series trucks and higher can be ordered with dual rear wheels.  
 
Trim designations include the base ST with vinyl floor and seats, air conditioning, power windows and a six-speaker CD audio system. The SLT trim offers an electronic trailer brake control, cloth upholstery, keyless entry, heated outside mirrors and cruise control. The Big Horn and Outdoorsman packages can be added to SLT models to include a chrome grille, leather-wrapped steering wheel and more powerful headlights (Big Horn) or a limited-slip rear differential, tow hooks, wheel flares, foglights and polished alloy wheels (Outdoorsman).  
 
Engine options start with the 390-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 and the 6.7-liter Cummins high-output I6 turbodiesel that produces 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The optional diesel engine for chassis-cab models is a 305 horsepower/610 lb-ft version of the Cummins.  
 
Properly equipped, the Ram 3500 can tow up to 19,950 pounds.
