Vehicle Review: 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost
2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost Total Car Score Analysis
A shortage of expert ratings means the 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost goes without a valid Total Car Score.
The Ghost shares 20 percent of its components with BMW's largest sedan, the 7 Series. However, this shared architecture is mostly hidden.
A 6.6-liter, twin-turbo V12 is tuned differently from its BMW counterpart, but is powerful enough to make the Ghost the quickest production Rolls-Royce ever. To sprint from zero-to-60 mph takes a fleeting 4.8 seconds.
The Ghost has been described as “neo-classic” for its blend of more contemporary luxury car interior cues, such as a large navigation screen, night vision, and undisguised side-view/reversing camera displays. Being fresh to the scene, the Ghost will not be facelifted for a while.
Its dynamics are also neo-classical: more driver-focused, with disciplined, near-sporty handling, communicative steering and prodigious acceleration -- accompanied by a supremely quiet and comfortable ride.
2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost Model Line-Up
The 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost comes in one trim level and is then optioned according to the buyer's whim. Standard equipment includes BMW-sourced systems such as active roll stabilization, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, night vision and iDrive.
The Ghost's cabin goes its own way: rear-hinged rear doors, deep pile carpeting, organ-stop vent pulls, violin-key switches, a choice of eight hand-stitched leathers, five hand-crafted wood veneers, and 10-way power/massaging/heated front seats.
Options include drop-down rear tray tables, twin rear DVD monitors and multi-adjustable rear seats.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is yoked to a 6.6-liter, twin-turbo V12 that cranks out 563 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque.
Tipping the scales at 5,500 pounds, the 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost consumes premium gasoline to the tune of 12 mpg city/20 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined, according to the EPA.
