2013 Dodge Dart GT: Detroit Auto Show

Debuting at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show is the newest addition to the Dart line-up, the 2013 Dodge Dart GT.

While not as powerful as the yet-to-be-released Dart R/T, the Dart GT will feature a larger 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 four-cylinder engine. This engine makes 184 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, which is more powerful than the previous top engine in the Dart line. That engine, a 1.4-liter four cylinder, tops out at 160 horsepower, but it actually offers a higher peak torque figure of 184 pound feet. We’re assuming the larger displacement 2.4-liter will deliver a broader torque band over a larger RPM range, but we’ll have to wait until we drive the new Dart GT to know for sure.

That drive will be enhanced by the Dart GT’s standard sport suspension (with frequency-sensing shocks) and standard 18-inch alloy wheels. A unique front fascia with Hyper Black detailing, along with integrated dual exhaust outlets, will differentiate the GT from other Darts. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual.

More impressive than the Dart GT’s performance upgrades is how Dodge packaged them with other premium features for an easily digestible $20,995 MSPR. That price includes perforated Nappa leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated mirrors and a leather steering wheel with audio and cruise control buttons.

Optional equipment, like HID headlamps, a navigation system, an Alpine audio system with 10 speakers and 506 watts, a dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission and a Hyper Black finish on the 18-inch wheels can be added for additional coin.
