Audi has added to its high performance RS line up with the 2014 RS 7 making its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this week. The five-door hatchback or coupe, whichever you prefer, just looks fast sitting on the showroom floor. The RS 7 comes with standard 20-inch forged lightweight wheels or optional 21-inch cast wheels in three designs.

At the rear the RS 7 has a retractable spoiler and shiny black diffuser containing two massive exhaust pipes.

These elements all serve a purpose in keeping this car glued to the road. That’s because Audi says it can be delivered with the capability to achieve a stunning top speed of 189 mpg. The RS 7 is powered by a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 cranking out 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, going zero-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds. It does come with a governor limiting top speed to 155 mph, but with the optional dynamic package the RS 7 can achieve the top speed of 189 mph.

But Audi says that despite these awesome performance numbers, the RS 7 is also fuel efficient, able to get up to 24 mpg. This is due to the cylinder on demand (COD) system that can regulate the 4.0-liter TFSI engine. Under slower or moderate speeds the system deactivates cylinders 2, 3, 5 and 8. The engine now operates as a four-cylinder engine until the driver accelerates strongly, which will reactivate all cylinders. On top of this the 8-speed tiptronic transmission’s lower gears are closely spaced for a responsive driving experience, with eighth gear operating like an overdrive to increase fuel efficiency.

Outside the RS 7 can be outfitted with carbon fiber mirrors and the headlights are uniquely Audi, with the LED lighting that Audi’s racing team has made famous. Adding certain packages will add more carbon styling cues and a Quattro badge to the center air inlet.

Inside the RS 7 comes with RS sports seats. Power adjustable comfort seats are optional. There are numerous option packages, adding head-up display and different interior trims.

RS badges are littered throughout the cockpit, including the three-spoke leather steering wheel. Simply put, the interior is impeccable blending sport with premium luxury.

What Others are Saying:

Motortrend"The 2014 Audi RS 7 Sportback should excite American enthusiasts. With 553 horsepower packed under its hood, it had better. But the most important thing is that unlike some other Audi RS models (we're looking longingly at you, RS 6 Avant), it's coming to the U.S. American fans of Audi's hyper-performance machines can rightfully rejoice."

Autoblog.com"If you have a burning desire to take yourself and four friends to 189 miles per hour, the 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback can help you out."
