The 2014 Audi SQ5 is coming to America later this year, though the high-performance crossover sold in the U.S. will be different than its European counterpart. While the Euro version of the SQ5 is turbodiesel powered, American buyers will get a supercharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6 gasoline engine that produces some 354 horsepower and more than 346 pound-feet of torque. (By comparison, the supercharged V6 in the standard Q5 is good for 272 hp and 295 lb-ft.)

An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission -- with standard paddle shifters -- and fulltime quattro all-wheel drive channel the power to the pavement and propel the SQ5 from 0-60 mph in just over 5 seconds, according to Audi. The SQ5’s terminal velocity is electronically limited to 155 mph.

As befits an Audi given the S treatment, the SQ5 sits lower than its standard Q5 brothers by a little more than an inch, and the suspension has been firmed up to improve handling. There are 45-series tires on 20-inch alloy wheels at each corner; 21s will be available as an option. Electromechanical power steering is provided as standard equipment, though Audi’s dynamic steering -- with the driver able to tailor its responsiveness through various modes -- will be offered optionally.

There will be several styling cues to distinguish the S version of the Q5, including a unique grille, bumpers and roof spoiler, in addition to S badging.

Inside, the SQ5’s powered sport seats are covered in Pearl colored Nappa leather and Alcantara, with other leather colors available. Likewise brushed aluminum is the standard trim material, though optional inlays are available in carbon, piano black or an aluminum/wood combination.
The 2014 Audi SQ5 will go on sale in the fall. Pricing and fuel economy data will become available closer to its on-sale date.
