Lexus has released the first official photos of the 2014 Lexus IS ahead of its world debut next week at the Detroit Auto Show.

The redesigned compact sport sedan is wider and has a longer wheelbase. It features the new Lexus spindle grille design as well as new headlamp clusters with Lexus' L-shaped daytime running lights. F SPORT models (shown here) will have an exclusive front bumper design and grille that can drawer in a larger volume of cooling air to accommodate more sporty performance.

On the inside, the 2014 Lexus IS has a more sporty driving position due to changes in the seat geometry as well as a lower, LFA-inspired steering wheel. F SPORT models have the LFA's driver's meter with a moving center ring as well as perforated leather on the steering wheel and shift knob, black seat stitching and aluminum pedals and scuff plates. New features on all models include electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning with the touch of a finger (a Lexus first) and an analog clock with surface-emitting illumination.

The Lexus IS is also more comfortable for rear seat passengers, thanks to the longer wheelbase, increased width as well as thinner front seat backs that give rear passengers more knee room and easier accessibility. The rear seat now features a 60/40 split-folding design, improving cargo space.

The 2014 Lexus IS will be available in the U.S. in IS 250 and IS 350 models. A hybrid model, the Lexus IS 300h, will be available overseas only.
