BMW has taken the wraps off its redesigned 3 Series Sport Wagon, revealing a look similar to the redesigned 2012 BMW 3 Series sedan in a larger package than the current model it will replace. The new model feature more leg room for rear seat passengers, as well as additional cargo capacity, bringing the total to 17.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats. The rear seat features a 40/40/20 split and, when folded, the maximum luggage capacity is comparable to the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon and 2.5 cubic feet more than the 2012 Audi A4 Avant. To further ease loading of small items, the new 3 Series Sport Wagon will continue to have the rear window that opens separately from the tailgate.
BMW has not officially released the details of the engines that will power the 2013 BMW 3 Series Sport Wagon, but it is expected that the same two engines will be offered as in the sedan: a 240 hp, 2.0 liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder and a 300 hp, 3.0-liter, turbocharged, six-cylinder, both available with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2013 BMW 3 Series Sport Wagon goes on sale in Europe later this year. It will be available in the U.S. next spring.
