A 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will serve as the Pace Car for the running of the 96th Indianapolis 500 this Sunday. With 638 hp, it is the most powerful production car to pace the infamous race. The 2013 model year marks the 60th anniversary of the Corvette.
The Corvette Pace Car will feature a paint scheme that is similar to the 60th Anniversary Package available on all 2013 Chevy Corvette models, which features Artic White paint (with a blue top on convertible models) and a Blue Diamond leather interior with suede accents, a ZR1-style rear spoiler and 60th Anniversary badging on the steering wheel, seat headrests and wheel center caps. Full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, which extends over the roof even on convertible models, is an option.
The Pace Car will be driven by chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri, host of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on the Food Network and a Chevrolet collector. Fieri said, “There are races and then there are races,” said Fieri. “And without a doubt, the Indy 500 is the race that I’ve always wanted to attend. And now, to be driving the Corvette Pace Car…this is going to be unbelievable.”
Sunday's Indy500 will mark the 23rd time a Chevrolet has served as a Pace Car and the 11th time for the Corvette model.
