Volkswagen is on the move again, introducing a new special edition of its Beetle and considering adding a crossover wagon that would compete with the Subaru Outback.
The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Fender Edition is a Volkswagen Beetle with Deep Black Metallic paint with brushed chrome exterior mirrors, 18-inch "disc" aluminum alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights and the Fender guitar logo. On the inside, the dashboard features the sunburst color that Fender guitars are known for as well as color-contrasting seams to complement the dash and fabric inserts exclusive to the special edition. The special Fender Edition Beetle comes equipped with the Fender Premium Audio System equipped, for the first time, with the high-performance sound setup to create an audio experience that is akin to a live performance. The Volkswagen Beetle Fender Edition will go on sale in the U.S. this fall. Pricing has not yet been announced.
In other Volkswagen news, Autoweek, citing unnamed sources, is reporting that VW is considering producing a crossover wagon similar to its Alltrack concept car (shown below). The vehicle would be a crossover version of the Jetta SportWagen called the Jetta Alltrack and would compete with the Subaru Outback. It is possible that the Jetta Alltrack could be the additional SUV Total Car Score reported last week that Volkswagen of American CEO Jonathan Browning told reporters the company was considering.
