Several automakers, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have issued several recalls recently.
Chrysler is recalling some 2009-2012 Ram 1500 pickups (above), 2009-2011 Dodge Dakota pickups, as well as 2009 Chrysler Aspen and 2009 Dodge Durango SUVs (below) for a problem with the rear axle pinion nut that could cause it to loosen, resulting in the axle locking and causing a loss of vehicle control. This is an expansion of a recall of some Dodge Dakota and Ram 1500 vehicles that was issued last fall. 278,222 pickups are affected in the U.S. by this current recall. Chrysler said it was aware of 15 accidents related to the problem, but no injuries.
General Motors is recalling some 2012 Buick Verano, 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, 2012 Chevrolet Cruze and 2012 Chevrolet Sonic cars for a problem with the driver-side frontal airbag that could cause the airbag not to deploy during a crash. 3,896 cars are affected.
Owners of all cars affected by recalls will be notified by mail by the manufacturer. Consumers who are concerned that their car is affected can find more information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by searching for their car here or by calling the toll-free number in their owner's manual.
