Several automakers, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have issued several recalls recently.

The cars are all being recalled for a problem with the steering column locking device that could cause them to roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, possibly causing a crash or injury. 54,686 cars are affected.

Subaru is recalling some models of its 2009-2012 Subaru Forester (below), 2010-2011 Subaru Legacy, 2010-2011 Subaru Outback and 2006-2012 Subaru Tribeca due to a problem with the accessory puddle lights that may cause it to short circuit due to moisture in turn melting the plastic and resulting in smoke or a fire. 633,842 cars are affected.

Owners of all cars affected by recalls will be notified by mail by the manufacturer. Consumers who are concerned that their car is affected can find more information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by searching for their car here or by calling the toll-free number in their owner's manual.
